The history of the Barone Ricasoli family is intrinsically linked to this territory, with historical evidence showing their possession of Brolio Castle since 1141, making Ricasoli one of the oldest wine-producing families in Italy. Baron Bettino Ricasoli, an illustrious ancestor, is credited with crafting the original 'Chianti formula' in 1872. Today, under the guidance of Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd Baron, the winery is committed to continuous improvement, focusing on research into Sangiovese clonal selection, sustainable vineyard practices, and making wines that reflect the land's unique history and diverse soils.
Wine Description
On the palate, it is voluminous and medium to full-bodied. It possesses a well-balanced acidity, minerality, and structured, appreciable tannins that are described as soft, elegant, and well-smoothed. Stylistically, it offers a great balance between richness and depth of fruit with a mouthwatering, fresh acidity. Notes on the palate include tart cherry, medicinal raspberry, worked leather, and a black-cherry tang with peppery earth. The finish is long and persistent.
Food Pairing
Suggested food pairings include traditional Tuscan dishes such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina, osso buco, pappardelle with ragout sauce, and mushroom risotto. The wine also pairs well with liver paté, aged salami and cheese, or a simple pasta ragu.
