Doppelbock is a special strong lager first brewed by friars in Munich for an annual celebration that predates Oktoberfest by 200 years! The naming convention for doppelbock is to pick a word ending in “-ator” in order to pay tribute to Paulaner Brewery’s version, the original gangster: Salvator. There are now many variations of this style, but this interpretation is smooth and toasty with a subtle touch of smoke. Lagers already take a long time to make, but to brew a big strong one like this they definitely burn through a couple extra pages of the calendar. At the time of writing this they aren’t exactly sure how many weeks theirs will need, but look forward to sipping it when it’s ready… Sünerörlator.
