Chateau Lafite Rothschild is one of the world's most iconic Bordeaux wines, celebrated for its extraordinary elegance, precision, and longevity. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, cedar, graphite, violet, cigar box, and fine spice unfold into a seamless palate with silky tannins, exceptional depth, and a remarkably persistent finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable First Growth Bordeaux experience.
96 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Showing the serious side of Château Lafite Rothschild, this is big and dark, powered by tannins as much as fruit. The wood aging is still showing, although it will integrate into the great structure that supports the ripe black currant fruit. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also possessing great freshness. Drink from 2024.
95 Points - James Suckling
Superb structure for the vintage with black currants, cedar, mushroom and sweet tobacco character. Full-bodied yet reserved and tight, with impressive density. Long finish. Better from 2020.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
This has a dark, smoky edge from the start, with smoldering tobacco and grilled savory notes lining the core of steeped plum, macerated black currant and lightly mulled cherry fruit. Shows a loamy, smoky edge to the finish, with the tobacco hint peeking through. Features admirable range, depth and grip, with just a touch of the vintage's austerity lingering. Best from 2018 through 2030.
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Representing only 38% of the estate’s total production, the 2012 Château Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance mostly Merlot. It is a very stylish, elegant, yet concentrated Lafite Rothschild with an opaque ruby-purple color, soft, well-integrated tannins, nicely integrated oak, balanced acidity and moderate alcohol. The wine reveals plenty of lead pencil and black currant fruit. Medium-bodied, it should reach its prime between 2020 and 2035.
