BEGIN WITH THE BURR

Sometimes treated like commodity items—functional and standardized—burrs are tucked away inside the grinder and are seldom questioned. For over a decade, Comandante founder Bernd Braune has been working on innovative concepts for conical burr sets, with the engineers at Comandante's Bavarian Burr Lab pushing the boundaries of machining technology and developing pioneering tooling in pursuit of perfection.

Celebrating burr geometry as the key to unlocking hidden flavour potential, the Lab Series provides greater freedom to experiment and explore. Brewing styles and taste preferences are subjective and, like coffee itself, wonderfully diverse. Embrace this diversity, confidently explore what tastes best to you, and enjoy not just the result, but also the journey getting there.

Inspired by the iconic shape of the hammerhead shark, the HAMMERHEAD burr is forged with a distinctive hexagonal block blade geometry. It's engineered to handle the size and density of larger beans like Pacamara with remarkable precision, elevating their full-bodied sweetness and fruitforward complexity.

Coupled with the extraordinary toughness and extremely high edge retention capabilities of Comandante's signature NITRO REX steel as the centrepiece of each grinder, the C40 Lab Series is made for those who make no compromises and share a passion for quality, craftsmanship, and the perfect coffee
FEATURES

The distinctive hexagonal block blade structure of the HAMMERHEAD® burr set provides great versatility and produces a dense and juicy cup with defined fruit clarity and structured sweetness.

Optimized burr geometry delivers unparalleled precision in grind particle size distribution.

Full range of grind size adjustments, from turkish to cold brew.

Designed and built for ultimate performance and ergonomics, including the reworked internal engine frame featuring Comandante's high-performance QTP® techno-polymer.

Stainless steel body & QTP frame; NITRO REX® steel burr set; stainless steel axle; solid European oak wood handle; glass and polymer jars.

Made in Germany

Quality engineering crafted with the finest materials, honouring Comandante's Bavarian heritage.
USE & CARE

Regular cleaning will keep your grinder running smoothly and tasting fresh. Burrs and inner mechanism should not be wet, and can be cleaned with a brush or pressurized air can. Glass jars may be cleaned with soap and water, and the wooden veneer should be kept dry, but can be wiped with a damp cloth and cared for as you would any wood item.

Grind Settings

While the perfect grind setting of course varies from coffee to coffee, here are some helpful starting points for your new Comandante grinder:

- 5–10 Clicks for Turkish.
- 10–15 Clicks for Espresso.
- 15–20 Clicks for a Bialetti or stovetop moka pot.
- 22–32 Clicks for a pour over filter coffee (depending on dose and brewer).
- 25–30 Clicks for Cupping and French Press.
- 30–35 Clicks for Cold Brew.
Aeropress? Well, that depends on your recipe!
