Introduction
This red wine originates from the United States, produced in the Paso Robles region of California's Central Coast. Daou Vineyards was established in 2007 by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou, who were inspired by the heritage of Bordeaux and sought to find a terroir capable of producing world class Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery is situated on Daou Mountain at an elevation of 2,200 feet, where the winemaking philosophy focuses on the unique calcareous clay soils and a climate that allows for extraordinary phenolic ripeness.
Wine Description
The Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2023 displays an opaque, deep purple colour. The nose is expressive and complex, offering aromas of black cherry, crème de cassis, and black plum, complemented by notes of sandalwood, tobacco leaf, and toasted oak. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and opulent, delivering flavours of dark berries, cocoa nibs, and graphite with a hint of forest floor. It is characterized by its significant structure, vibrant acidity, and firm but fine grained tannins that lead into a long, polished finish. The varietal composition is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, often blended with small amounts of Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc. The ABV is typically 14.5% to 15%. The wine is not certified organic, and the optimal drinking window is from 2026 through 2040.
