Kavalan Podium is a perfect showcase of the distillery’s unique approach to maturation. This expression utilizes a highly unusual blend of refill casks combined with specially treated new American oak barrels. That virgin oak influence is crucial. It’s a technique often associated with American whiskey, but here, it’s subjected to the tropical intensity of Taiwan’s Yilan region. The warmth accelerates the extraction of deep flavors like vanilla, coconut, and baking spice at a startling pace. This process results in an exquisitely complex and surprisingly delicate spirit.
The new oak provides a burst of richness and wood character. Meanwhile, the refill casks ensure the distinctive, vibrant fruitiness of the Kavalan spirit shines through without being overwhelmed. It is bottled at 92 proof, giving it enough warmth and body to hold up neat or with a splash of water. The Podium is an essential dram for exploring the core complexity and tropical signature that has made Kavalan a revolutionary force in world whisky.
