Le Carillon de l'Angélus is the second wine from Château Angélus, a Premier Grand Cru Classé 'A' estate located in the Bordeaux region of France, specifically in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The de Boüard family has owned the estate for eight generations. The vineyard is situated in a natural amphitheatre, a location that amplifies the sounds of the bells from the surrounding churches, which inspired the name Angélus. The winemaking is precise and meticulous, with a focus on preserving aromatics.
Wine Description
The 2021 vintage of Le Carillon de l'Angélus is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine offers a nose with aromas of fresh, ripe, and spicy fruit. It also features scents of black cherries, mulberries, redcurrants, and flowers, along with hints of cedar, clove, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a fine bead of acidity. It is described as elegant, balanced, and fresh, with a suave and harmonious finish. It also has a lovely energy and a smooth, long finish. The wine is a classic, mid-weight Bordeaux that is enjoyable in its youth but also has aging potential.
