American single malt rarely feels this expansive. Lost Lantern American Vatted Malt Remix pulls together single malts from 11 distilleries across eight states, layering their voices into a deep, resonant blend. Bottled at natural cask strength of 110.7 proof, it carries a two-year age statement with components up to eight years old, and only 800 bottles exist. The style leans toward Scotch lovers, yet it still speaks with a distinctly American grain-driven accent and a faint desert campfire edge.
Components: Balcones, Copperworks, Santa Fe, Triple Eight, Virginia, Westward, Cedar Ridge, McCarthy's,
Andalusia, Westland, Whiskey Del Bac
The first aromas are generous and immediate. Dark chocolate curls over toasted cereal and malt-steeped tea, with fresh pear, baked apples, and a thread of mesquite smoke weaving quietly underneath. The nose feels warm and generous. Hints of crème brûlée, brown sugar crust, and dried citrus peel drift in as it opens, nudging the sweetness toward cocoa-dusted granola territory. Texture comes across as silky and grounded. You taste brown sugar, caramel, and malt biscuits first, then green tea, Frosted Flakes nostalgia, and roasted nuts wrapped in slow-building oak spice. A subtle smoky current runs through everything. Mesquite and gentle campfire notes underline the sweetness, steering the whiskey away from dessert overload and toward something more layered and serious. The finish takes its time in the best way. Baking spices linger with pie crust crumbs, sugar cookies, and a little cocoa, while the malt hum keeps ringing after each sip.
One small splash of water helps. It teases out extra herbal tones and a firmer cereal note, making the whole pour feel even more composed and quietly confident.
