Maker’s Mark Cask Strength Limited Bottling 7-Year Bourbon is the bold side of a classic. It spent 7 years and 2 months in charred oak barrels. Then it was bottled at cask strength, which means no water was added to bring the proof down. This bottling sits at 112.6 proof. Like all Maker’s Mark, it uses red winter wheat instead of rye. That gives it a soft, rounded sweetness under all the power. On the nose you get caramel, vanilla, and warm oak spice. A hint of dried fruit and toasted nuts joins in. The palate is rich and full-bodied. Brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla lead the way. Baking spice and oak add warmth as it opens up. The finish is long and warm. It fades with sweet oak, spice, and a touch of dark chocolate. Sip it neat to feel its full strength. Or add a few drops of water and watch new layers appear.
