Introduction
This white wine originates from Georgia, specifically from the Kakheti region within the Alazani Valley. Produced by Telavi Wine Cellar under the Marani brand, the winery was founded in 1915 and is situated just outside the city of Telavi. The winery's philosophy bridges nearly a century of innovation with deep historical roots, maintaining the ancient traditions of Kakhetian winemaking while utilizing modern methods to suit a global palate.
Wine Description
Marani Alazani Valley White displays a bright pale greenish yellow or light straw colour. The nose is intriguing and aromatic, offering a bouquet of toasted nuts, ripe apples, and white flowers layered with touches of quince and melon. On the palate, the wine is fresh and medium bodied, featuring flavours of candied melon, white peach, and tangerine balanced by a mild acidity. It is characterized by its rounded, gentle sweetness and dominant notes of candied quince peel, leading to a smooth finish. This wine is typically a blend of 90% Rkatsiteli and 10% Mtsvane grapes, though some releases may be 100% Rkatsiteli. The ABV is generally 12%. While the winery utilizes traditional qvevri for certain premium lines, this regional range is produced using modern temperature controlled stainless steel to preserve freshness and is not typically certified organic. The optimal drinking window is from release through two to three years.
Food Pairing
The natural sweetness and crisp acidity of this medium sweet white make it an excellent partner for spicy dishes and light appetizers. It pairs perfectly with spicy Asian takeout, vegetarian cuisine, or creamy green bean soup. Its fruity and nutty profile also complements mushrooms, mild soft cheeses, sweet biscuits, and fresh fruit desserts.
