The 59 Litre Keg of Molson Canadian (commonly known in the industry as a "Full-Size," "Half-Barrel," or "50L/59L Commercial Keg") is the undisputed backbone of Canadian taproom culture. First brewed in 1959 in Montreal, Molson Canadian was created as a homage to the vast, cold landscapes of the country. This flagship North American Pale Lager is built on pure, unpretentious refreshment.
Beer Description
When poured fresh from the tap, Molson Canadian fills the pint glass with a brilliant, crystal-clear golden-yellow hue, crowned by a dense, frothy white head that holds a steady collar.
Aroma: The nose is clean, subtle, and classic. It leads with dominant notes of sweet cereal grain and pale malted barley, followed by a very faint, herbal hint of Canadian hops. It has zero heavy yeast esters, smelling cold, crisp, and pure.
Palate: On the tongue, it is light-to-medium bodied with a snappy, effervescent draught mouthfeel. It opens with a gentle wave of bready cracker sweetness, which rapidly resolves into a smooth, clean middle. The finish is short, crisp, and dry, leaving almost no residual bitterness on the tongue.
Profile: It sits at a standard 5.0% ABV and an ultra-approachable bitterness of 15 IBU, engineered for maximum drinkability.
Technical Notes: Molson Canadian is brewed using 100% Canadian-grown two-row malted barley and water sourced from local Canadian aquifers. The recipe incorporates select hop varieties to achieve its light balance. The keg format is the gold standard for draft stability; kept under constant carbon dioxide pressure and cold temperatures, the beer avoids oxidation, preserving the clean, unpasteurized draft character that makes it noticeably smoother on tap than in packaged formats.
