Nelson Bros. Cognac Cask Finish Bourbon Whiskey begins with Nelson Brothers Classic Bourbon, a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys made for the Nelson family’s revived whiskey house in Nashville, Tennessee. The bourbon is transferred into select French oak Cognac casks hand-delivered from southwestern France for its final stage of aging. Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery bottles this cask-finished expression at 48.35% ABV (96.7 proof) in a 750 mL format. The distillery created the Nelson Brothers line in honor of founders Andy and Charlie Nelson after they revived the family business established by their triple-great-grandfather before Prohibition.
The producer describes a flavor profile built around caramel, vanilla, and cherry from the bourbon, with the Cognac cask finish adding hints of ripe fruit and toasted oak. Those notes give the expression a defined progression from familiar bourbon sweetness toward fruit and oak accents shaped by the French casks. Across the aroma and palate, caramel and vanilla provide the sweet foundation, cherry and ripe fruit bring brightness, and toasted oak supplies the final wood-driven counterpoint. The result keeps the classic bourbon character in view while showing the specific influence of its Cognac cask finish.
