When selecting single barrels, you expect a specific profile. At Old Forester in Louisville, a Floor 8 barrel offers classic top-floor heat. But a barrel from Floor 5 of Warehouse J showcased so much more. It delivered signature heat and viscous syrupiness, with just enough restraint for deeper character to shine. Trading raw intensity unlocked a complex, herbaceous, and spicy side that made it our clear pick.
Bottled at a roaring 129.6 proof, it still packs pure Old Forester power. The nose opens with cinnamon roll, date syrup, caramel, and peppercorn, grounded by green herbs and mint. A rich palate unfolds with molasses, apple cider donut, cinnamon sugar, and green tea, leading to a long finish of berry compote, rye spice, and oak. It balances high-proof muscle with layered elegance.
