The Perdomo Fresco Maduro Torpedo proves that a good everyday cigar doesn't have to be an ordinary one. Made in Nicaragua, Fresco Maduro pairs a dark Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper with Cuban-seed Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. The result is a medium-to-full-bodied Nicaraguan smoke with the natural sweetness and depth Maduro smokers look for, offered without the ceremony—or price—of Perdomo's more elaborate lines.
At 6½" x 54, the Torpedo is particularly well suited to Fresco Maduro. Its tapered head concentrates the smoke on the palate, bringing the wrapper's cocoa and earthy sweetness into sharper focus. Coffee, cedar and roasted tobacco develop underneath, accompanied by enough pepper and spice to remind you there's a substantial Nicaraguan core at work. The longer format gives those flavors plenty of time to settle and develop.
For the Maduro smoker looking for a dependable cigar that can become part of the regular rotation, Fresco is easy to recommend. The Torpedo adds a little refinement to an intentionally straightforward blend. Keep several on hand—this is a lot of honest Nicaraguan tobacco for the money.
