Peroni Nastro Azzurro is Italy’s premier export lager, a symbol of Italian style and craftsmanship since its launch in 1963. Brewed by Birra Peroni in Rome, it was originally inspired by the "Nastro Azzurro" (Blue Ribbon) won by the Italian ocean liner SS Rex in 1933. Positioned as a premium, sophisticated beer, it is designed to reflect the effortless elegance of Italian culture, offering a crisp and refreshing profile that has made it a staple in high-end bars and restaurants worldwide.
Beer Description
This international pale lager pours a brilliant, crystal-clear pale straw color with a lively effervescence and a thin, bright white head.
Aroma: It features a clean and delicate nose with subtle notes of grainy malt, white bread, and a distinct herbal, citrusy hop aroma from the use of noble hops.
Palate: The flavor is light-bodied and exceptionally crisp. It offers a subtle balance of sweet corn and malt, followed by a quick, dry bitterness that cleanses the palate. It is characterized by its high carbonation and "fizzy" mouthfeel, which enhances its refreshing quality.
Profile: It has an ABV of 5.0% and a low-to-moderate bitterness of approximately 24 IBU, making it a highly drinkable and versatile beer.
Technical Notes: A key ingredient in Peroni Nastro Azzurro is "Nostrano dell'Isola" maize—a high-quality corn variety grown exclusively for Peroni in the fertile plains of Northern Italy. This corn provides the beer’s signature clarity and crisp, dry finish, while the use of premium hops ensures a sophisticated aromatic profile.
