This exceptional red wine hails from McLaren Vale, South Australia. Founded in 1892 by Alexander Campbell Johnston, Pirramimma remains a family owned and operated estate, with grandson Geoff Johnston currently at the helm as owner and chief winemaker. The winery is a pioneer of the variety in Australia, having researched the grape for eleven years before releasing the country’s first single varietal Petit Verdot in 1994.
Wine Description
This wine presents an inky, deep profile characteristic of the varietal. On the nose, it exhibits intense aromas of violets, cherries, and cedary oak, supported by red floral tones and earth. The rich, full bodied palate delivers layers of juniper, plum, blackcurrant, and mocha, all framed by 24 months of maturation in French oak.
Food Pairing
The wine’s dense structure and spicy notes make it a perfect match for grilled steak, roast beef, or slow cooked short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with hearty lamb shanks and sharp cheddar cheese.
