Planteray O.F.T.D. (Old Fashioned Traditional Dark) is a bold, high proof rum expertly crafted through a collaboration of seven rum aficionados, including cellar master Alexandre Gabriel. As a tribute to the revered Navy rum style, this expression is a robust blend sourced from the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, the Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica, and Demerara Distillers in Guyana. The brand rebranded from 'Plantation' to 'Planteray' in 2024 while maintaining its artisanal production methods and ownership by the French company Maison Ferrand.
Spirit Description
This molasses based overproof rum is produced using both pot and column stills and undergoes a double maturation process: first in tropical climates and then in temperate French oak barrels.
Colour: It possesses a deep toffee amber hue, described as dark and sultry.
Aroma: The nose is intense and precise, featuring a complex bouquet of orange peel, coffee, plum, and jam, with undertones of smoked wood, truffles, and molasses.
Palate: It delivers a burst of caramel cream, dark chocolate, and vanilla fudge, layered with warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, and banana bread.
Body: Despite its high proof, it maintains a surprisingly soft, velvety, and creamy mouthfeel with a rich and oily structure.
Finish: The finish is long and lingering, characterised by persistent accents of clove, smoky dark chocolate, burnt vanilla, and hot baking spices.
ABV: Planteray O.F.T.D. is bottled at a potent 69% (138 proof).
