More than 140 years ago, Leopoldo and llario Ruffino were among the first in Tuscany to recognize that the best wines come from the best vineyards. Ruffino honour that philosophy today with meticulously chosen vineyard sites, carefully managed vines and the yields, and with use non-interventionist practices in the vineyard and in winemaking.
Because Ruffino starts with the best quality of fruit, Ruffino wines reveal themselves without coaxing or manipulation. This is the essence of their traditional approach to making wine. In their relentless pursuit of the highest quality, Ruffino winemakers also use modern cellar techniques.
Ruffino has always embraced tradition and history, as demonstrated by their championing of ancient grape varieties such as Colorino. Their Chianti Classico wines have a style that has been the benchmark of Tuscany, Italy for many years–earthy, terroir-driven, high in acidity, and restrained. Their whites offer uncommon value by virtue of the use of native grapes that produce great wine in the right terroir. For instance, the Orvieto is a blend of Grechetto, Procanio, Verdello, and Canaiolo Bianco, grown on a chalky limestone soil called tufa. The grapes are destemmed, gently pressed, and with the lees removed, fermented at low temperature in stainless steel vats.
