Suerte Still Strength Blanco is the bold, uncut version of the Suerte blanco. It comes off the still at 52% ABV, or 104 proof. No water is added to bring it down. Most tequila is cut to around 40%, so this one gives you the spirit just as the distiller tastes it. Only 1,530 bottles were made, a nod to the distillery's NOM number.
The tequila is made at Tequilera Simbolo in Atotonilco El Alto, in the Jalisco Highlands. Suerte uses 100% Blue Weber agave. The piñas roast slowly in a brick oven for 52 hours. They are then crushed with a tahona, a heavy stone wheel that few brands still use. The juice is distilled twice. Suerte says its whole process takes up to four times longer than the industry norm. The brand also puts weight on sustainable production.
Pour a glass and give it a minute to breathe. You will find wet grass, bright lemon and soft herbal, green notes on the nose. The palate leads with roasted agave, citrus and a gentle agave sweetness. Vanilla and butterscotch show up later. It feels rich and full in your mouth. The heat is real, but it never turns harsh. The finish stays warm and peppery for a good while.
Try it neat first, in a small glass. A few drops of water will open it up if the strength feels like a lot. It also makes a punchy Margarita or Paloma with fresh citrus. At the table, it works with grilled meats, spicy tacos and bright ceviche.
This bottle is a good pick if you already enjoy Highland tequila and want more of it in every sip. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a friend who collects small releases. If you like to explore craft spirits made the slow way, it has earned a spot on your shelf.
