The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Cask originates from the Speyside region of Scotland, crafted at the historic Macallan Estate. Established in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the distillery is currently owned by the Edrington Group, which maintains a commitment to traditional methods such as using curiously small stills and a meticulous wood programme.
Whisky Description
This iconic single malt presents a light mahogany natural colour, a result of nearly two decades of maturation in hand-picked, Oloroso sherry-seasoned European oak casks. The nose is rich and complex, offering a bouquet of dried fruits, ginger, and dates, layered with hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and orange zest. On the palate, the whisky is full-bodied and soft, unveiling dark chocolate-coated ginger, sultanas, and toasted mature oak that provide a velvety mouthfeel. The finish is long and elegant, sustained by lingering dried fruit, warm oak spice, and a refined interplay between sweetness and gentle wood tannins.
Food Pairing
The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Cask pairs exceptionally well with rich, indulgent flavours such as salted caramel dark chocolate or a classic chocolate ganache tart. For a savoury match, the whisky's dried fruit and oak notes beautifully balance the intensity of a mature blue cheese or a rosemary-infused leg of lamb.
