This sparkling wine originates from France, within the Bordeaux region, but is labelled as a Vin Mousseux, or French Sparkling Wine. Veuve du Vernay is a widely recognized brand of French bubbly created by the house of Patriarche Père & Fils, which was established in 1780. The brand is named in honour of the widow ('Veuve') of a French nobleman who supported the establishment of the maison (house).
This 'Blanc de Blanc' is made exclusively from white grape varieties, which typically include Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Chardonnay. It displays a brilliant, light straw yellow colour with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and fruity, featuring notes of white flowers and peach. On the palate, the wine is lively, delicate, and well-balanced. It is known for its fresh, dry character and elegant complexity, which comes from its production using the traditional méthode Charmat (tank method). Stylistically, it is crisp, clean, and refreshing, making it an excellent example of an accessible French sparkling wine. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is typically 11.5 per cent.
