The Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a masterpiece of Japanese whisky craftsmanship, proudly representing Suntory’s flagship single malt. First introduced in 1984, it has since become a symbol of Japanese whisky’s rise to global acclaim. Crafted at Japan’s oldest distillery, nestled in the serene landscapes near Kyoto, this elegant single malt reflects the purity of its surroundings. The water source, filtered through granite between two mountains, provides the whisky with its exceptional clarity and smoothness.
What sets the Yamazaki 12 Year Old apart is its maturation process. This expression is aged in three distinct casks: American ex-bourbon barrels, Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, and rare Japanese Mizunara oak—an exotic wood known for its sandalwood aroma and subtle coconut notes. This unique combination creates a beautifully layered flavour profile that evolves with every sip.
On the nose, expect a symphony of sandalwood, coconut, grapefruit, and pineapple, balanced with hints of vanilla and subtle spice. The first sip unveils honeyed malt sweetness, interwoven with cinnamon and nutmeg for a spicier depth. As you continue, tropical notes reminiscent of fine rum emerge, leading to a gracefully dry finish that lingers elegantly on the palate.
A staple in any whisky collection, the Yamazaki 12 Year Old is more than just a drink; it’s a journey into the soul of Japanese whisky-making.
