Château de Montfaucon Côtes du Rhône originates from France, within the Southern Rhône subregion of the Rhône Valley. The estate's history dates back to the 11th century when its first tower was built strategically along the Rhône River. Owned by the same family since 1766, the winery has been managed since 1995 by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at the esteemed Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. The estate covers over 60 hectares of vines, and its winemaking philosophy focuses on preserving natural heritage by utilizing a diverse selection of 15 different Rhône grape varieties to create well-balanced, harmonious wines.
Wine Description
This red blend typically presents a dark ruby or deep garnet colour with a purple hue. The sensory profile is rich and fragrant, featuring aromas of ripe dark cherry, raspberry compote, and red currant, often accented by notes of lavender, violets, cracked pepper, and earthy forest floor. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied and well-balanced, delivering flavours of dark plum and dried tobacco leaf with vibrant acidity and velvety, integrated tannins. The finish is long and persistent, frequently revealing hints of liquorice and spicy garrigue herbs.
Varietal Composition: Primarily a blend of Grenache (typically 50% to 60%), Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, and Counoise.
ABV: Ranges from 13.5% to 14.5% depending on the vintage.
Organic Status: The estate is certified organic and is also noted as being vegan-friendly.
Stylistic Notes: Fermented and matured in cement tanks for approximately 18 to 20 months to emphasize fruit purity and freshness.
